What’s SMASH?

SMASH is the art party of the year, brought to you by Triangle ArtWorks.

The Triangle’s arts scene is vibrant, creative and BUSY. It can be hard to see and do all the things you want to do, much less network with all the artists, creatives, administrators, agencies and art geniuses you want. The sprawling “Triangle” reaches across an armful of cities and towns, all with superhero dance companies, incredible galleries, tremendous museums, art co-ops, painters, puppeteers, world-reknowned musicians, sculptors, dancers, and more. There are too many arts superheroes here to count. How can you ever get together with all of them?

It’s simple, join us on January 3oth, 2019 and SMASH the arts.

What happens at SMASH?  It’s just the biggest arts industry event of the year!  Here’s what you will find:

  • Kick off the New Year!  Most of all, its a PARTY of SUPERHERO proportions! Food!  Beer! Wine!  And the most creative people in the Triangle!
  • Network! – With your discipline and cross discipline – We will have gathering tables where you can find your people easily, share a drink and an idea. So, gather around the your discipline table, find collaborators at other discipline tables, talk to folks in the drink, food, name tag tables….this is your night to connect!
  • IMG_3394 (1)HAVE/NEED is back! Find what you need/Share what you have – When you arrive, not only will you create a SMASHing name tag showing everyone who you are, but we will also have our famous Have/Need tags, so people can see what you need or have to share…and find you. You can even bring a sheet to put on on our Have/Need walls!
  • NEW THIS YEAR! Quick•Connect! – Have one burning question you want answered? At our new Quick•Connect area, make speedy connections with area leaders in Marketing, Law, Accounting, Grants/Funding, Nonprofit Boards, and Small Business consulting.  Learn more & meet the experts here!
  • NEW THIS YEAR! Dine & Discuss! – Just want to talk with colleagues about where they are having success on social media?  Where they are finding funding? Grab a drink and food and join the discussion at one of our Dine & Discuss tables.

How Artists Can Get The Most Out Of SMASH

We want you to make the most of your evening. Whether you are there to see old friends or to make new ones, we are here to help. We know that half the fun is just walking through the door, but here are a few things you should know and a few suggestions to make your evening both fun AND productive!

INDIVIDUAL ATTENDEES

HELP PEOPLE CONNECT WITH YOU
You will be a room filled with artists, arts organization leaders and folks that provide services and resources to the arts community. How can you be ready to get the most out of conversations?

  1. Name tag – We will have a table to create a personalized nametag, but think about coming prepared with your own unique name tag or way for others to know your name.
  2. Are you ready to show your work? Bring pictures, and ipad, or whatever and be prepared to show others what you do.
  3. Handouts are a must! Have business cards, gallery cards, and other tangibles ready to hand out if you have them.
  4. Bring a notepad and pen to write down all the new connections and ideas that will happen! Invite a friend to come along.
  5. What’s your Elevator Speech. Don’t know? Look it up!

The popular Have/Needs stickers and Wall from the last two years will be back again. This has become our most popular way to make new friends and get the conversations in high gear. The stickers go on YOU, so people can see what you Have/need and connect with each other quickly.  The wall is where you post general needs, like “Our collective is looking for new members”, or “I am a freelance lighting designer, here’s my number”. You may even want to come prepared with your own snazzy Have/Need sheets to stand out in the crowd.  Think of it as the best community bulletin board ever, where people can come looking for that right person or group to help them succeed through collaboration and specific skill sets. We ask that you limit your promotional materials to 8.5” x 11”, if you plan to attach them to the wall. If you have any questions, contact us throught this site and we’ll help you.

CONNECT WITH RESOURCES AND GET YOUR QUESTIONS ANSWERED AT QUICK•CONNECT AND DINE & DISCUSS
New this year, we will have Quick•Connect tables in the Atrium area with local experts/resource people on such issues as marketing, board development, small businesses, law, accounting and grants/funding. What question have you been wrestling with? Check out who will be at these tables and how to register for a time slot here. Also, throughout SMASH look for Dine & DIscuss tables, where you can sit down with other to share information about issues affecting all artists and arts organizations. Learn more here.

GET READY FOR YOUR CLOSE-UP!
Grab your crowd and take a SUPERHERO SELFIE! We will have superhero garb at our Selfie Wall (or bring your own!) so you can share your team SUPERHERO picture from SMASH!

MAKE YOURSELVES EASY TO FIND!
While you are there to connect with others, folks are also looking for you and want to know who you are and to learn about your organization or business. So, in addition to those marvelous Superhero smiles, have your group coordinate a plan that makes it easier for other attendees to recognize which organization you are with, so they feel comfortable to talk to you, share ideas and ask their questions. Wear logo t-shirts. Get matching capes. Create name tags highlighting your work. Bring handouts, flyers and SWAG!
